Wow! Can't believe I am almost at the half year mark! It has been one heck of a year, from being sent around to Dr. after Dr. in October, to preparing for surgery, to having the surgery, and then the longest part-- recovery!
Things are certainly moving in the right direction. The last time I posted, I had just seen Dr. Olson and was debating on whether or not to get the injection in my psoas. As it continued to bother me, and inhibit my flexibility, I decided to go in and get it. 6 days ago I met with Dr. Olson again and he agreed that it was time for the shot.
I was brought into an ultrasound room, where Janice, his PA took care of me. We were able to see my bones, joints, and tendons on the screen, so she could see exactly where to put the needle. They numbed me up fairly well (and I made sure to take some aspirin before leaving home!), and I barely felt a thing! It was over before I knew it and although I was a little sore right after, within an hour I was feeling great! I could already tell that the shot worked. 6 days later, and I'm so glad I went through with it. My muscle pain has almost completely gone away, and I am able to flex my leg more than before. I am working hard to keep stretching and strengthen the muscles, and have really began exercising hard. Since the bone is healed, I feel good about lifting weights, doing squats, and just about anything to get those muscles back in shape!
Dr. Olson did say that my muscle is still very weak. A few more months of hard work, and hopefully it will be just as good as the right leg!
So, at 5 months post op, I am back to doing regular Mommy type things. Today I am home alone with my 2 year old and planning on taking him to the pool this afternoon. No worries about being able to keep up with him! Although I'm not a great runner at this point, I can chase after him if needed! I had been saying that he had it coming the day he realized I could chase him again... and oh was I right! The look on his face the other night when he tried to run from me was priceless! No more getting away with little things because Mommy can't get to him fast enough ;-)
