Five weeks and getting stronger every day. I have made so much progress since my first day of PT. Day 1 my internal hip rotation angle was at 20 degrees. One week later, it was at 32. On Friday, I was able to put my left (operated leg) across and set my foot on my right knee. This may seem small to some, but for me this is a big accomplishment. Just 5 weeks ago, I couldn't even lift my foot off the floor.
Before today, each PT session (3 times a week) were all stretching. I lay or sit on a table, while my therapist slowly moves my leg, attempting to get my range of motion back.

Beginning today, two out of the three weekly sessions will be in the pool. I began aqua therapy this morning and it was great! I was actually able to walk in the pool! At the end of the session, I was even allowed to stand on my left leg alone. It was scary, but felt so good at the same time. I have to learn to trust my leg again, and this will help me do that. I am exhausted from it now though and am ready for bed... even though I took a nap this afternoon. My PT told me this would happen. The water makes you feel so light and when you get out you feel like a thousand pounds! It's tiring!
My dad flew in this morning from Vermont. He is here just for the weekend, then he and my mom will fly home together. We are going to try to enjoy our last few days with them before attempting our next challenge: getting by as a family without the extra help! I am hoping to find more energy soon so I can take care of little things around the house. I am not yet allowed (family rule) to go up and down the stairs alone, so I will pretty much be stuck to the downstairs while Ben works. If he can get me the laundry basket, I can at least fold. If he can give me a cutting board, I can chop veggies. We'll see how we do. I am most worried about the boys and how they will do without their Mimi around. They will rely on Ben to do dinner, bath, and bed each night and I will do my best to assist. It's not easy when you can't put weight on one foot, but we'll manage.
For now, we will take in our next few days with the extra help and be thankful for the 5 weeks we had with her.
Thank you to everyone who continues to support us along this journey. Thank you Nana for the weekly cards. I have held on to each one. Thanks Melody and Mayla for the meal and dessert, and of course, your visit this week! And thanks to Ben's co-workers who are planning weekly meals for us beginning next week. To my best friends, Tara, Chris, and Sarah, thank you all for checking in on my daily to make sure our needs are met. This surgery has been a test of friendship and the three of you have stuck by me every step of the way. I couldn't be more grateful for having each of you in my life.

Friendship isn't about who you've known the longest. It's about who walked into your life, said "I'm here for you" and proved it.
