Saturday and Sunday were beautiful. Ben took me for a walk in the wheelchair yesterday afternoon while Mom and the boys headed to Davis Drive Park. We ventured outside the circle and ended up going about 20 minutes. My leg/hip did great, so we decided to sit outside for a little while before coming in. Over an hour later, my leg was starting to tingle, and was a tiny bit purple, but for the most part still doing great. We came in to get it up before it got bad, but we were pleased with the amount of time I was able to keep my leg in a downward position.
It was already 51 degrees when we woke up this morning. We knew we were going to get out somewhere. We gave Owen the choice of a park or a walk around the neighborhood, and of course, he chose park. It took a while for everyone to get ready, since Ben and Mom also have to help me get ready, on top of the 2 boys, but we made it out the door and to the park around 10:30. It takes a few minutes to get me in the car, but not too bad. Ben and I have a pretty good system, so we make it work. Crutches, to wheelchair, then back to crutches near the car. Then, with seat pushed as far back as possible, I slide in and use my upper body to rotate my hips as he scoots my legs up and in. It's a slow process, but it works.
I sat in the wheelchair at the park since my circulation is still very poor. Mom and Ben took turns wheeling me around to watch the boys play, and I even took my camera with me. It's not easy photographing two wiggly little boys from a wheelchair! I got a few decent shots though. There is a path that goes around the perimeter of the park, so Ben and I decided to try it out. Landon came with us, while Mom and Owen stayed at the playground. It was maybe about a 20 minute walk, but of course, Landon got tired along the way and we asked him if he'd like to try to sit on my lap. It worked! He was able to sit on my far right side, and I felt no pain in my left hip. So Ben pushed us both.
At around noon, we were all getting hungry. Owen had been talking about wanting a burger all morning, so we gave in and decided to try Five Guys. Boy was that good! No Tribeca Tavern, but for a greasy burger joint- YUM! Just don't look at the nutrition information! We decided to sit outside to eat, and wheeled my chair right up to the table. It was too far to reach, but I just placed my burger and wrapper on my lap and made it work. It was worth the mess.
After getting home, I was ready for a nap. Getting off the couch is exhausting!
I woke up to Mom and Owen coming in the door. They had gone out to Target and Carter's and even brought me back a new pair of slip grip socks. It was still so nice out, so Mom and Landon (who had just napped too) took me out for a walk in the wheelchair. It felt so good to get out twice in the same day!
Tomorrow will be about 70 degrees, so I'm sure Mom and I will try to get out to sit in the sun for a bit. Sunshine does good things for recovery! Check out my pictures from the park today. Some were from my phone, but not too clear, but just as meaningful to me.
