It's not that things aren't happening, because things are really happening. I don't post much anymore because I am too busy getting myself back to "normal."
Tomorrow marks 12 weeks since surgery. In a recovery that is said to take 4 months, I am 3/4 of the way done! Now, this doesn't mean that I will be 100% at 16 weeks, but I should be functioning enough to play with my boys, walk crutch free, and enjoy life with little to no pain.
So, where am I now? Well, in the last week, I have learned how to walk up the stairs crutch free (holding onto the railing). It is awkward, and nowhere near perfect, but getting one leg ahead of the other is a HUGE step (no pun intended)! My next goal is to learn to go down without the crutch.
The photo above is a major milestone. I have been attempting this stretch since starting physical therapy, and on Tuesday was able to do it for the first time! My psoas is still very tight, but with daily stretching, massage, and the use of the foam roller, it is loosening up and allowing me a little more flexibility.
Today in PT, I was asked to balance on my left (op) leg. I was able to do so, no problem. My strength is coming back! I was also allowed for the first time since October (when I was diagnosed with hip dysplasia) to do lunges and squats. It felt so good to get those muscles burning again!
Before leaving, my therapist also put kinesio tape over my incision and instructed that I leave it on for 3-7 days. Kinesio taping is good for many things, but in my case, it should help relax my psoas muscles and loosen them up a little. One of my problems with my psoas is that it causes me so much pain to lift my leg without help from my hands. In using this tape, along with my regular pt and stretching, we hope the pain will lessen and I will begin lifting my leg without assistance.
Here is a video we put together today. The first few seconds are of the video I posted last time, ending in me walking today. 3 weeks certainly made a difference!
