Yesterday was the long awaited first post op appointment. I saw Janice, Dr. Olson's Nurse Practitioner. First, I had 3 xrays- One laying down on my back, then one laying on each side. The xrays looked great. The bone is exactly where it is supposed to be and it really cool to see. I have the 3 huge screws, but also you can see a chunk of bone that was cut in somewhat of a triangular shape, rotated, and put into it's new position. You can see the holes in my hip where we are waiting for new bone to grow.
So looking at the xrays, my new bone has not grown. It is not expected to grow this fast (remember this is a 4 month recovery on average), so we are right on schedule. Because I still have holes in the bone, I cannot bear any weight on my left leg for at least another 5 weeks. That will bring me to mid April when I go for my next appointment and meet with the surgeon.
Janice did however give me the script to start PT next week! It will mostly be stretching since I cannot bear weight, but it's a start. I will also be able to begin aqua therapy in another 2-3 weeks.
I had my stitches removed, but one of my incisions has not fully closed. They put 2 steri strips over it, so hopefully it will close a little more before they fall off. Looks like I'll have a pretty good scar there once this is all said and done.
Other than the stitches and xrays, we just went over my medication list. I am going to drop down on my dose of Oxycontin from 30mg to 20mg. She says I am doing great-- my swelling is down, and she was very pleased that am able to move my knee a little bit on it's own without the help of my hands. Progress! Oh, AND I got the okay to shave my legs!! Yeehaw! Now if I could just reach below my knees...
