Not a whole lot to update you on over the last 2 weeks. I feel as if I am in a holding pattern until I see Dr. Olson on the 17th (next Thursday). There's only so much you can do on one foot! I am continuing my PT 3 times a week and stretching on my own on the other days. I am getting more flexible, but still have a very long way to go.
On my 6 week post-op anniversary, I officially began driving again. Ben had taken me to physical therapy that morning, and as we pulled into our parking space, I asked if I could give it a try. I got out of the passenger side and crutched over to the drivers side door. He shut the door, and told me I had to do everything by myself. I did it! I was able to open the door, put my crutches in the passenger side, slide in, pick up my own leg and bring it into the car, and drive. It was only once around our circle, but I was driving!
Today, 7 weeks post-op was my first day driving all by myself. I drove to and from PT, getting in and out of the car all by myself. It gets easier each time, although it will be much easier once I can drop these crutches!
My celebrations over the past 2 weeks include:
- No naps in 2 weeks. My energy level is returning!
- Internal hip rotation is at 40 degrees (optimal is 45).
- Completely off Oxycodone and Oxycontin and feeling minimal pain.
- Today I was able to put my own socks and sneakers on my feet without help. I even tied them both (it was awkward, and anyone watching would have been laughing, but I did it and that's all that matters!)!
Other than little accomplishments, things are moving slow. They should begin to pick up in the next few weeks once I can bear weight. 6 days and counting til my appointment!
